Dana White is tempted by the prospect of Conor McGregor battling Michael Chandler in a super fight.

McGregor is reported to return to the fighting cage soon. His comeback has been the talk of the town ever since he announced that he could now spar.

However, UFC remained tight-lipped regarding potential opponents to battle McGregor after a difficult 2021.

But it seems like Dana White has found a way for the return of the Irish superstar.

Here is everything you need to know.

Dana White admits that Conor McGregor might fight Michael Chandler for his comeback match

Dana White recently sat down for an interview with TMZ.

During the session, White was asked if Jorge Masvidal would fight Conor McGregor when he returns to the Octagon.

White however did not appear to be into the fight. Reg ardless he confessed to having a different opponent in mind for The Notorious.

The 52-year-old president revealed that McGregor’s return bout could be against lightweight standout, Michael Chandler.

The veteran UFC promoter said, ‘I really like Chandler vs. Conor after Chandler’s last fight. There are plenty of fights to make. I don’t know if that’s the one. We will see what the landscape looks like when Conor gets back.’

Chandler’s last fight was at UFC 274 in May. He is coming off following an exhilarating win over Tony Ferguson which broke his two-fight losing streak. The Iron Mike knocked out El Cucuy with a front kick only 17 seconds into the second round. It was one of the most brutal knockouts ever that has the whole arena at their feet.

White pointed out, ‘I’m just saying after his last [Octagon] interview, his last fight, Conor’s ranked number 8. [Michael’s] ranked number 5. It makes a lot of sense right now.’

Meanwhile, McGregor has not fought in a battling cage since UFC 264 in July 2021. The 33-year-old wrestler gruesomely broke his leg during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. He is reported to be in his final stages of recovery.

White mentioned that McGregor’s return is getting day by day.

He said, ‘I think he is getting better. He is starting to ramp up his training, and I’m hoping by the end of this year, early next year.’

Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor at lightweight or welterweight?

Conor McGregor usually gets his wish. He has offered to fight in the welterweight division when he returns. Hence the bout could occur at welterweight.

But since he is eyeing UFC gold at 155 lbs, a lightweight matchup seems more plausible.
