Serena Williams has spoken about her plans for retirement for the first time in an as-told-to cover story with Vogue.
The poignant article was released on Tuesday with Williams explaining her reasons to retire from tennis.
The 41-year-old athlete claimed that she is retiring from the sport to focus more on her family.
She said that she never wanted to choose between tennis and her family. As she thinks it’s not fair.
She added that if she were a guy she would not have to write about her retirement.

Williams claimed that if she were a man then she would have been playing tennis and winning the matches. She also implied that her ‘wife’ would be responsible for expanding their family.
Moreover, Williams did not specify when she planned to hang the tennis racket. However, she is gearing up for her next match in the U.S. Open which is slated to start on the 29th of August.
She added, ‘I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.’
Williams also mentioned that she is reluctant to openly talk about her retirement with anyone. She added that she rarely speaks about the subject with her husband, Alexis.
Williams continued that retiring is one of the hardest things she would ever do and hates it.
She claimed that she feels like she is at a crossroads and is torn. She also said that she does not like the feeling and it is not an easy decision for her.
Williams wrote that while she does not want her tennis career to be over she is ready for her next adventure.
Regardless, the tennis star revealed that she is trying to get pregnant and does not want to go through the experience as an athlete.
She also mentioned that her daughter, Olympia, is excited to become a big sister.
