YNW Melly is accused of orchestrating an escape from jail with the help of one of his lawyers.

Here is everything you need to know.

YNW Melly accused of attempted prison escape

Christian Tsoubanos, Assistant General Counsel for the Broward Sheriff’s Office claimed that YNW Melly is plotting an alleged prison escape during a pre-trial hearing on 27th September, Tuesday.

He said, ‘The confidential source gave us two pieces of information. One of them [about the shank and drugs] turned out to be a hundred percent true.’

Furthermore, Tsoubanos continued, ‘And when they did the search of Demons’ cell. They did not find the handcuff key. But it could have been that there was not an opportunity to bring it into the facility yet.’

It read, ‘On April 11, 2022, Broward Sheriff’s Office received a confidential tip regarding inmates Nicholas Lewis and Jamell Demons, both housed in the same unit at the Main Jail, planning an escape from jail by having Demons’ attorney bring in two handcuff keys to aid in the escape.’

Moreover, they wrote, ‘Additional information provided by the source was that Lewis had a shank and drugs.’

YNW Melly’s lawyer denies the allegations

YNW Melly’s lawyer Raven Liberty labeled the allegations baseless while talking with a media outlet.

She mentioned, ‘There is no truthfulness to this whatsoever. When Melly comes into visits, whether it’s [with] me, my investigator, or anybody else, he is strip searched coming into the visit.’

Liberty added, ‘When he leaves the visit he is strip searched. If there would have been any type of contraband i.e. keys, they would have found it.’

Subsequently, she proclaimed, ‘This is basically a flat-out lie and a smear campaign.’

Melly whose real name is Jamell Maurice Demons is charged with double homicide. He was taken into custody in February 2019 over his connection with the death of fellow Christopher ‘YNW Juvy’ Thomas Jr. and Anthony ‘YNW Sakchaser’ Williams in 2018.

If found guilty,  the 23-year-old rapper will face a life sentence behind prison bars without the possibility of parole. Initially, the state was aiming for the death penalty.

However, Melly’s legal team managed to eliminate the possibility of capitol punishment citing a technicality. Hence, in July a judge decided not to pursue the sentence.
