Laverne Cox now has her own Barbie doll, which she describes as a “dream come true.”

To mark the Emmy Award-winning actress’ 50th birthday, Barbie announced on Wednesday that a Tribute Collection doll would be released.

Laverne Cox has been transformed into one of the iconic dolls to memorialize her achievements in the LGBTQIA+ community, launching Mattel’s first-ever transgender Barbie.

“I can’t wait for my doll to be on shelves and for fans to add a Barbie doll modeled after a transgender person to their collection,” she said in a statement. “I can’t believe it,” the actress, producer, and writer said of her “surreal” experience to People.

Cox is proud that Barbie can show children that “there is hope and possibility for them to be themselves”. She cited recent anti-trans legislation and discrimination against trans children.

Mattel explained that the doll was created to resemble Cox. It comes equipped a tulle gown in deep oxblood red, heeled boots, silver earrings, and silver metallic bodysuits. Lisa McKnight, Mattel’s executive vice president and global head of Barbie and Dolls, expressed her feelings in a statement.

“We are proud to highlight the importance of inclusion and acceptance at every age with a Tribute Collection Barbie and to recognize Laverne’s significant impact on culture,” she said.
