A recent viral post claimed that professors from Howard University, Kamala Harris’ alma mater, labeled her as “the worst student ever.” The post, which gained traction on social media, originated from a satirical article published by SpaceX Mania’s subsidiary, Esspots, on September 10. The story cited several so-called retired professors who allegedly taught the vice president during her time at the historically Black university.

While it is true that Kamala Harris attended Howard University, the claims made in this article are entirely false. The story, labeled “RATED SATIRE,” is a piece of fabricated content meant for humor rather than factual reporting. Esspots’ website even carries a disclaimer, noting that their content is purely satirical. In fact, at the top right corner of the shared image, small text reads, “Nothing on this page is real. If you believe anything we post then you’re a potato crop.”

Additionally, Esspots’ “About Us” page makes it clear that the platform specializes in creating fake news and absurd stories for the sake of entertainment, with a strong dose of humor and satire. This debunking demonstrates that the claim about Harris being dubbed the “worst student ever” is completely baseless.

Howard University Praises Kamala Harris’ Achievements

In contrast to the satirical narrative, Howard University has always expressed pride in Kamala Harris’ accomplishments. When she was sworn in as Vice President of the United States in 2021, Howard released a statement celebrating her success. The university hailed her as “more than a symbol” and commended her for the “personal and individual attributes” that helped her rise to the historic role.

Howard University also highlighted her “unique charisma, intellect,” and work ethic, which propelled her to the vice presidency. They pointed out that Harris’ success was not a matter of luck but a result of her dedication and drive to excel in all areas of her life.

“From her days as an undergraduate economics and political science student at Howard, it was clear that Harris was bound for greatness. She was singularly gifted at debate and had a hunger for knowledge and information,” the university noted. Howard underscored that she embodied the school’s “principles of truth and service” and maintained that Harris’ character and education shaped her life’s commitment to societal advancement.

The institution expressed pride in Harris becoming the first female Vice President of the United States, viewing her as a role model for future generations of Howard students. When rumors about her potential 2024 presidential run surfaced, Kamala Harris herself paid tribute to Howard in a 2021 Instagram post, thanking the university for teaching her to embrace her unique identity and stand tall.

Inspiring the Next Generation at Howard University

Kamala Harris’ historic career continues to inspire Howard University students. When news broke of her possible 2024 candidacy, many students expressed excitement at the prospect of one of their own potentially becoming the first woman to serve as President of the United States. One senior, Nikkya Taliaferro, noted that Harris’ candidacy was already making a profound impact on the student body, stating, “Even if she doesn’t win, she’s already made such a big impact and I know for all of us, that alone, is unforgettable.”

Harris has long held her alma mater in high regard and frequently acknowledges the role Howard University played in shaping her identity and confidence. In her Instagram post from January 2021, she credited the university for helping her to stand proud of her heritage and diversity, knowing that her Howard family would always be rooting for her.

The viral post claiming that Kamala Harris was labeled the “worst student ever” by Howard University professors is entirely fabricated and has been debunked as satire. Far from being criticized, Harris has been celebrated by Howard for her remarkable achievements and leadership. The satirical article, meant as a joke, contrasts starkly with the reality of Harris’ deep connection to her alma mater and her role as an inspiration for future leaders.
