In October 2024, TikTok users were swept up in a new viral trend centered around the phrase “In Da Clerb, We All Fam.” This catchy line has its origins in the popular Comedy Central series Broad City and quickly became a TikTok sensation, gaining millions of views and likes as users adopted it in a variety of creative and humorous ways.

The phrase “In Da Clerb, We All Fam” first appeared in a March 2016 episode of Broad City titled “BB-NYC.” In the scene, Ilana Wexler (played by Ilana Glazer) turns to her best friend Abbi Abrams (played by Abbi Jacobson) and utters the now-iconic phrase while they crash a party. Originally, this was a lighthearted moment in the show, but in October 2024, the phrase took on new life as a viral meme on TikTok, where it began popping up in lip-sync videos and humorous content.

TikToker Maggie Winters, known by her handle @saggiesplinters, was the first to revive the scene on TikTok on October 3, 2024, by dubbing it over a clip. The video gained widespread attention, racking up over 11.2 million views and nearly 574,000 likes in just ten days. Following this, a wave of TikTok users jumped on the trend, using the phrase to depict various scenarios related to friendship, family, and togetherness.

While the line is rooted in African-American Vernacular English (AAVE), TikTok users have found different interpretations and meanings for it. Many associate the phrase with concepts like unity and camaraderie, especially when referencing groups of friends or loved ones.

The trend gained even more traction when pop star Sabrina Carpenter joined in. On October 9, 2024, Carpenter posted a TikTok using the sound, joking about the generation gap between her younger and older fans. Her video, within just five days, attracted over 12 million views and 2.5 million likes, further boosting the popularity of the meme.

By October 11, TikToker @erikatitus joined the movement, posting her own version of the clip. Her video quickly went viral, amassing over 20 million views and 3 million likes in just three days. It wasn’t long before celebrities like Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, and Noah Beck, among others, hopped on the trend, adding their own spins to the viral sound. Charli XCX and Troye Sivan, for instance, referenced their joint tour in a post that humorously targeted a segment of their audience.

Beyond TikTok, the phrase found its way onto other platforms, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter). On October 13, X users @mothintoflames and @tinaturttle shared the catchphrase in posts that earned hundreds of thousands of likes in a single day. The viral trend extended beyond TikTok lip-syncs to include humorous captions for images of groups or teams, often referring to them as family-like units under the phrase “In Da Clerb, We All Fam.”

The viral meme has even been applied to popular TV shows and movies. Shows like Succession, Heartstopper, and The Sex Lives of College Girls, as well as films such as Bottoms and Bodies Bodies Bodies, have been used in edits and captions featuring the phrase, adding a fun, inclusive twist to popular media.

Despite the overwhelming popularity of the trend, Maggie Winters, the TikToker who reignited the phrase, has remained silent since her video went viral. Nonetheless, the trend continues to thrive across social media, with users finding new and inventive ways to incorporate the now-iconic “In Da Clerb, We All Fam” phrase into their content.
