The NFL has announced that Atlanta will host Super Bowl LXII in February 2028, marking the fourth time the city has been chosen to host the prestigious event. The game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the same venue that hosted Super Bowl LIII in 2019. This latest announcement was made during the NFL Fall League Meeting in Atlanta, following a review and vote by the league’s Fan Engagement & Major Events Committee and the full NFL ownership.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his excitement, calling Atlanta a “world-class event destination” and the perfect choice for Super Bowl 62. He also praised Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, for his efforts in securing the bid and for his contributions to the local community. Blank, in turn, expressed his gratitude to NFL owners for their confidence in Atlanta and committed to working with local officials to make Super Bowl LXII an unforgettable experience.

Hosting Super Bowl LXII is not just a win for Atlanta, but for the state of Georgia as a whole. In the lead-up to the event, the city will host several fan-centric events and community programs, ensuring a week filled with excitement for both locals and visitors. Dan Corso, president of the Atlanta Sports Council, emphasized the city’s readiness to host such a massive event, attributing the success of the bid to the cooperation of civic and business leaders throughout the process.

“No city is better positioned than Atlanta to host events of this magnitude,” Corso stated. He credited the city’s proven track record in hosting large-scale events, highlighting the city’s growing status as a global sports hub.

Atlanta’s bid for Super Bowl LXII was a collaborative effort led by the Atlanta Sports Council, in partnership with the Atlanta Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Atlanta, and the State of Georgia. This unified approach demonstrated the city’s ability to handle events of this size and complexity.

Super Bowl LXII will mark the fourth time Atlanta has hosted the big game. The city first hosted Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994, followed by Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, both at the now-demolished Georgia Dome. The city last hosted in 2019 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a venue specifically designed for hosting major events.

This announcement solidifies Atlanta’s position as a prime destination for high-profile sporting events. The city is already set to host a series of major competitions, including the College Football Playoff National Championship and MLB All-Star Game in 2025, the FIFA World Cup in 2026, and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2031. Super Bowl LXII adds to this impressive lineup, further establishing Atlanta as a global sports capital.

Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons, celebrated the announcement, expressing his pride in bringing the Super Bowl back to Atlanta. “Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built to host the world’s largest sporting events,” Blank said, highlighting how the city will build on the success of hosting Super Bowl LIII in 2019.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens echoed Blank’s enthusiasm, calling Atlanta the “sports capital of the country.” Reflecting on the city’s history of hosting the Super Bowl, Dickens noted that each event has propelled the city forward, further cementing its reputation as a premier sports destination. “We have raised the bar with each subsequent game, and I look forward to outdoing ourselves in 2028,” Dickens said.

With this announcement, Atlanta is set to once again welcome football fans from around the world, promising a Super Bowl experience that will continue to raise the bar for future events.
