Ransom retrieved by the US from Hackers through Colonial Pipeline Attack!!
2 min readA huge amount of ransom has been retrieved by the US after the Justice Department confined it. In the last month, Russian Hacking Collective was paid a huge amount. But it was a move played by the US Colonial Pipeline operators. They just wanted that money to go to the digital wallet so that it could reach there. After reaching there, the Attackers had access to the wallet and snatched millions of dollars. But the money retrieved was in cryptocurrency. It proved to be one of the most significant Colonial Pipeline Attacks by the US.
In the statement given by the US, they said that around 75 bitcoins, worth around $4 Million were traced and brought back. The department said that before moving to the wallet the money was transferred through 23 different electronic accounts. It made the tracking difficult but somehow they managed to do it. Once the money made it through the accounts, it was then deposited in an account that was easily invaded by law enforcement officials.
The money that has been retrieved has been kept safe now. “A huge amount that was sent to the hackers has been taken back and kept in the accounts” Said the officials. The Justice Department was overwhelmed with the approach used by Colonial Pipeline Attackers as the technology has transformed so much that it has become easy to track all the systems. The officials said that they have been working on the system to identify which accounts are used by the hackers to get the money. A warrant has been also issued by the Judges so that all the money is seized from the wallets and transferred into the bank accounts. Cybersecurity is surely an important factor for all banks.
