Recently, Jerold “Jerry” Blair had died because of COVID-19. He was 60 years old at the time of his death. He was fighting for several weeks against this deadly virus. Blair started his music business career when he was in college in 1983. He worked for CBS Records as a college rep. Then in 1986, he joined Chrysalis Records as Label’s director for West Coast Labels. He became really famous while he was working for Columbia Records. He worked for 12 years and his radio promotion here became very popular. Jerold was first appointed as SVP of the promotion. After this, he was promoted to EVP in 1997.

Blair was very keen on Latin music. He played an instrumental role in Ricky Martin’s Crossover, his boss at that time was the former chief of Sony Music Tommy Mattola. His belief in Latin also proved to be fruitful for Jennifer and Shakira. Their songs became super hit at that time.

Jerold and Carey formed MonarC Label together when they were working as partners in Columbia Records. He also played an important role behind the hit song “I don’t want to miss a thing”. In this song, he worked with Aerosmith with Diane Warren.

At the time of his death, Blair was working with Daniel Glass of Glassnote Records in a movie. Daniel said, “Jerry was, in many ways, a genius ahead of his time.” He further added, “his passion, exuberance, and boundless energy were contagious.
