Rapper Ice Spice, known for hits like “Deli” and her collaboration in “Barbie World,” has found herself at the center of online attention after reportedly losing a staggering 540,000 followers on Instagram in just 12 days. On September 3, 2024, The Pop Flop highlighted this significant drop in her social media following, noting that, as of that date, she had also lost an additional 8,000 followers. This steep decline isn’t just limited to Instagram, as reports from All Hip Hop indicate that Ice Spice’s Spotify followers have also decreased dramatically, with her monthly listeners dropping by 39 million over the course of a year.

While some speculate that the loss of Spotify followers may be due to the removal of bot accounts, others link the decline to ongoing controversy involving Ice Spice and her former friend, fellow rapper Cleotrapa. The drama, paired with what some see as a decrease in the rapper’s popularity, may have contributed to the large-scale unfollowing.

The internet, particularly on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), has been quick to react to this wave of lost followers. One user sarcastically remarked, “More people decided to unfollow her than buy her album… BYE—,” referring to the recent lackluster reception of her new music. Others were even more blunt, with one user declaring, “We can officially welcome her to her flop era. Career d3ad. Wrap it up!” Another X user added to the criticism, stating, “I even followed her to unfollow to add to this,” underscoring the extent of the negativity surrounding her recent struggles.

The feud with Cleotrapa has only fueled this backlash. Cleotrapa posted a series of TikTok videos on September 2, 2024, accusing Ice Spice of mistreating her during their time on the Y2K tour. Among the grievances, Cleotrapa claimed that Ice Spice didn’t pay her fairly and fabricated stories about the tour’s budget. One X user went so far as to suggest replacing Ice Spice with Cleotrapa entirely, writing, “Let’s replace her with Cleotrapa! Her music is better anyways!”

Ice Spice responded to the allegations in an X Spaces session on September 3, addressing Cleotrapa’s claims head-on. She defended herself by pointing out that she had generously shared the stage with Cleotrapa, even though she wasn’t contractually obligated to do so. Ice Spice also mocked Cleotrapa for her low listener count, dismissing the accusations as “crazy” and baseless. One of the more bizarre claims from Cleotrapa involved a supposed argument over a chicken salad, which Ice Spice directly addressed during the session, saying, “You never came to me talking about a chicken salad… you ate so much fg food, you fg vacuum, that the server was like, ‘Where did the food go?’”

In the midst of this social media storm, Ice Spice also tackled other rumors, including one about her recent weight loss. Fans speculated that she had used the weight loss drug Ozempic, but Ice Spice firmly denied the claim in another X Spaces session on August 19. Laughing off the rumors, she said, “What even is Ozempic?” and emphasized that her weight loss was due to physical exercise, as she showcased in an Instagram workout video posted on August 30 with the caption, “we beatin them allegations bae.”

The rapper’s dramatic social media follower drop, combined with the controversies and public reactions, paints a picture of a turbulent time for Ice Spice. Whether this will signal a downturn in her career or a momentary setback remains to be seen, but for now, the internet is watching her every move.
