Brooke Schofield, co-host of the popular podcast “Cancelled,” has issued a public apology on TikTok following the resurfacing of racist tweets she posted during her teenage years. The controversy erupted on Saturday when several of Schofield’s old tweets began circulating online, including one where she defended George Zimmerman for the killing of Trayvon Martin.

The years-old tweets quickly sparked widespread backlash and demands for accountability. Addressing the situation on Sunday, Schofield publicly apologized, stating, “I just should have known better. Sometimes you have these people that you put on a pedestal, and you think everybody older than you is smarter than you and knows everything, and they do not.”

In a nearly four-minute TikTok apology video, Brooke Schofield took full responsibility for her past remarks. “I am deeply sorry for the hurtful and offensive remarks I made in the past. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now. I am committed to learning and growing from this experience,” she said.

Schofield also provided context about her upbringing, explaining, “My parents were addicts, so I was adopted by my grandparents when I was like 10. As is true for a lot of grandparents, they’re a little bit less progressive than a lot of us are now.” She described her grandfather as a “right-wing conservative” and noted that conservative political commentators and news outlets were the only perspectives she had been exposed to at the time.

The TikTok star expressed her regret for not addressing the tweets sooner, explaining that she believed bringing them to light again would cause more harm. “I’m very, very sorry to anybody who is hurt by the tweets because, obviously, they are very hurtful. That is not how I think, that is not what I believe and I am 27 years old now. I’ve had so much time to learn and grow and formulate my own opinions and they are nothing like they were when I was 17-18 years old,” Schofield concluded.

Earlier this week, several of Schofield’s racially insensitive tweets were published by the celebrity gossip account, PopCrave. Among the posts, Schofield had argued that the death of Trayvon Martin was not a result of racial profiling. “Guarantee if Zimmerman shot a white guy, this wouldn’t even be a story,” she tweeted in 2013. “News flash this wasn’t a crime of racism it was self-defense.”

Zimmerman killed Martin on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, while the unarmed teenager was on his way to a convenience store. Zimmerman claimed self-defense under Florida’s “stand your ground” law and was later acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges. Martin’s death, among others, fueled the Black Lives Matter movement.

In another tweet from 2015, Brooke Schofield stated, “I said so many accidentally racist things last night I don’t know how I even made it back to America.”

Schofield recently gained internet fame for her 16-part TikTok series about her ex-boyfriend, musician Clinton Kane, alleging that he faked being Australian and lied about his mother’s death. Kane’s representative later told People that they had a “brief, three-month relationship over two years ago” and Schofield’s “recent comments regarding Kane are untrue.”

Despite the controversy, Brooke Schofield continues to focus on her career. The “Cancelled” podcast, co-hosted with Tana Mongeau, remains active, discussing various personal stories and current incidents, maintaining a significant following. Schofield’s latest apology indicates her intent to move forward from the incident and continue her work in the entertainment industry, although reactions to her apology have been mixed. While some have accepted her remorse, others remain skeptical about the sincerity of her apology.
