The Cuphead Show season 2 release date confirmed
3 min readSeason 2 of The Cuphead Show has been confirmed for some time, but during the Geeked Week event, Netflix disclosed an August 2022 release date.
It was only a matter of time after the phenomenal success of Castlevania, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, and Arcane that the one and only Cuphead made his way to the Netflix streaming behemoth.
The Cuphead Show, which premiered earlier this year on February 18th, is Netflix’s fourth significant video game – television series adaptation in the last several years.
Fans were overjoyed to find that Netflix had already ordered seasons 2 and 3 of The Cuphead Show. Fans were also excited that a release date has already been set for the highly awaited return!
Season 2 of the Cuphead Show has been announced for August 2022?
When The Cuphead Show’s first 12-episode season was released on Netflix in February 2022, fans were quick to binge-watch all of the episodes and get ready for Round Two!
On January 25th, 2022, Dave Wasson, the creator of The Cuphead Show, sat down with Animation Magazine’s Michael Mallory for an in-depth look at the series.
Wasson discussed how the conventional Netflix original episode runtime of 25-30 minutes was completely disregarded from the start. They forced the series to have a longer runtime and a second season.
It was confirmed that a total of 36 episodes had been ordered, “which will premiere in three different drops.”
The Cuphead Show season 2 is currently under production, according to Studio MDHR (the series’ production company). In addition, the studio’s Twitter page published a new GIF revealing that season 2 will premiere on Netflix in Summer 2022.
Reactions from critics were decidedly mixed
Following the premiere of The Cuphead Show’s debut season, critics and fans alike had a distinctly mixed reception.
On the one hand, the series currently has an IMDB rating of 7.4/10, which is good but not great. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has a 69 percent average critics score, with a 75 percent average audience rating.
Season 1 received mostly excellent reviews from critics, with IGN stating that it was “everything we could have asked for.”
The program is “genuinely a tonne of fun,” according to Comicbook. It praises the outcome as “a series that doesn’t only adequately embody the charm of 1930s cartoons. But proves that Cuphead as an IP still has capacity for growth.”
Not every news outlet, however, has been as enthusiastic about Netflix’s latest animated adventure. The show “looks unclear of how much energy to put into its faux-vintage-ness vs playing to modern storytelling sensibilities”.
A new expansion of the Cuphead video game is on the way
Fans of the Cuphead franchise will be pleased to learn that there will be at least one more new content release this year.
Following repeated delays, the next expansion for the Cuphead video game, dubbed “The Last Delicious Course,” is set to arrive on June 30th, 2022.
The expansion will be available via Steam and GOG on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
