Netflix has canceled Julie and the Phantoms series after one season. The streaming service has opted not to renew the musical dramedy’s second season. The executive producer, choreographer, and director Kenny Ortega announced it.

Julie and The Phantoms Won’t Be Singing At Netflix Anymore

Netflix has opted not to renew the musical dramedy for a second season following a long limbo period. The announcement was made on Instagram Saturday by executive producer and director Kenny Ortega.

He thanked fans for their continued support.

“Our @julieandthephantoms family wants to send our love and endless thanks to our Fantoms all over the world for the tremendous outpouring of love and support you have shown us since our premier,” Ortega wrote alongside several behind-the-scenes photos from the show. He announced that the Netflix show won’t be renewed for another season.

Despite their sadness, he said that they continue to move forward with pride over what they have accomplished and the family they have created with Julie.

Adapted from the Brazilian series Julie e os Fantasmas, Julie and the Phantoms starred Madison Reyes as Julie, a young woman who loses her passion for music after losing her mother.

However, after she finds out three teenage rock stars named Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) died in 1995 on the verge of success, the four of them decide to form a band together, allowing Julie to rediscover her love of music.

Shada recently told EW about his aspirations for a second season of the program. He said that after introducing the characters in the first season, one can really dive into the characters themselves.

He added that he would like to learn more about his character’s past, such as his family. And how he came to be a part of this group of absolute jerks. “It’d be so much fun to delve into it and see some flashbacks,” he says.

Netflix representatives did not react to EW’s request for comment right away.
