Russia Gets “Fake News” Law Amid Russia-ukraine Conflict
The new law passed by Russia has certainly made social media to get restricted with its operations in the country. With rising tension between Russia-Ukraine, there’s new “Fake news” law that states on spreading any fake news by any organization, the punishment can have one in jail for 15 years.
Owing to this new passed “Fake news” law, social media including Tiktok, Netflix, and others have thought of taking down its operations in Russia though not for long but for as long as things don’t get better between the duo countries.

TikTok Shuts Down Its Operations In Russia
It was reported last week when Tiktok announced that it would be restricting its operations in Russia following its “Fake News” law. Well, looking at the new law passed in Russia and the current crisis in the country, Tiktok would not have Russian users go for live streaming on TikTok.
Also, TikTok won’t be giving out new content to Russian users. However, the in-app messaging function of TikTok would stay active for Russian users. Meanwhile, the Chinese platform is trying to avoid any issues with its function in Russia amid the crisis in any form.
Netflix Too Shuts Down Its Services In Russia
While Netflix is one the most popular streaming platform in the whole world. There’s the Russia-Ukraine crisis and the new “Fake news” law by Russia that has made even Netflix shut down its services in the country. According to a report by Mint, Netflix won’t be letting any new Russian user sign up for a Netflix subscription.
Besides all this, Netflix also has 1 million subscribers from Russia. However, it isn’t known what will happen to the already subscribed users of Russia. Meanwhile, as TikTok and Netflix take down their services in Russia, it would be interesting to see which other social media joins Netflix and Tiktok.
