Kanye West has a new identity. According to the Los Angeles Superior Court, the artist formerly known as Kanye West is now officially “Ye.” The rapper’s petition for a name change was approved by Judge Michelle Williams Court.

On August 24th, the musician filed the petition, citing “personal reasons” for the change, without any further clarification. In 2018, Kanye West “YE” released an album of the same name, despite, before releasing his project,  the fact that it had previously been used as a common shortening of his stage name.

“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So it’s I’m you, I’m us, it’s us,” Kanye West explained that same year in an interview with radio host Big Boy. “It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, our everything.”
