Jasmine Davis stated on Twitter in April 2022 that she would not be returning for The Chi Season 5. Imani, the salon owner played by the actress, has officially left the Showtime drama. Fans had grown to love Davis’ character over the years, so the news was obviously depressing for many.
The Chi by Lena Waithe centers on daily living in a South Side Chicago neighborhood where a disastrous chain of events unexpectedly links the lives of numerous diverse characters. The program had its Showtime debut on January 8, 2017, and it will return on Friday, June 24, 2022, for the fifth season.
Jasmine Davis left The Chi for what reason?
Jasmine Davis tweeted in April 2022 that she was leaving the Showtime series and will not be coming back for the next fifth season. According to TVLine, her post implied that Disney’s involvement in the production was the reason for her departure from the series. 20th Television, a unit of Disney’s television division, is in charge of producing the show.
Disney recently came under fire for its ambivalent attitude toward Florida’s divisive “Don’t Say Gay” Bill, which Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law. It forbids teachers in public schools from bringing up gender identity or sexual orientation in class.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek eventually changed the company’s neutral stance and promised to work to repeal the law, but Florida lawmakers responded by taking action against him. Numerous Disney employees who identify as LGBTQ+ also signed a letter requesting Chapek and other executives to openly denounce the anti-LGBTQ+ laws in the nation.

Davis, who self-identifies as transgender, performed the role of a transgender person on the program. She joins the show in its third season. Her character Imani, a chic salon owner, was initially welcomed with conflicting reactions. But as time went on, her role became indispensable, and the series will undoubtedly suffer if she leaves.
The Chi addressed transphobia in a plot involving Imani during its fourth season. After being let go by the season, Trig’s transphobic pal Shaad was staying with Trig and Imani. By the end of the season, Shaad’s perspective had changed, and he had even called Imani’s family to protect her from a man’s crude remarks.

The Chi is a television series that Lena Waithe created with Common serving as executive producer. It centers on the lives of those who live in a South Side Chicago neighborhood. Chi is a coming-of-age drama that centers on a group of locals who meet by coincidence but grow close because they both desire forgiveness.
It displays typical neighborhood scenarios, such as children getting ready for school, parents leaving for work, and young folks looking for work. But because of the rough neighborhood, there are genuine threats every day. Sometimes, even the smallest choices can have huge repercussions.
The program made its Showtime debut in January 2017 and will now make its fifth season debut on June 24, 2022. The film features a number of actors in different roles, including Jason Mitchell, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Jacob Latimore, Tiffany Boone, Yolonda Ross, and Armando Riesco.
