David Willis, the 29-year-old American Idol alum is making headlines for reasons other than his music. The police took him in custody for the possession of drugs on February 11, 2022.
David Willis Arrested For Drug Possession
The police arrested David Oliver Willis, the American idol star for the possession of drugs on Friday. The police pulled over the singer’s vehicle for a damaged headlight in Lake County, Florida. When the officers pulled over the singer’s car, they allegedly smelled marijuana and proceeded to search the car.
During the investigation, the police discovered that he was in possession of a grinder and rectangular pieces of paper that tested positive for LSD. Additionally, the Lake County police reported that Willis later acknowledged smoking marijuana with a friend before they got into the car, but maintained that it was not his LSD.
He was charged with a felony of the third degree for possessing a controlled substance. Moreover, Florida laws allow for up to five years in jail for a third-degree felony, in addition to a $5,000 fine. He is all set to appear in court next month. With teary eyes, he looked into the distance in his mugshot as he appeared sad.
David Willis – The Multi-time American Idol Contestant
David Willis was a multi-time American Idol contestant. He made his first appearance in the competition during Season 12 back in 2013. Despite Willis’ wonderful vocals, he didn’t make it past the quarterfinals before being eliminated.
Willis returned the following season, where he performed a cover of “Too Close” by Alex Clare during his audition. His performance impressed the judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. Lopez even praise Willis for the same. He said that Willis’ voice had a beautiful tone and presence and he played really well. Moreover, he additionally said that it felt right. Urban added that the contestant sang effortlessly.
Unfortunately, Willis lost in the next round. However, he came back again in the following season.
