Eric Thompson charged with murder in fatal shooting of Waipahu acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara at clinic

Eric Thompson, a 34-year-old man was involved in the second-degree murder of a 47-year-old Waipahu acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara. An extra-marital affair led to the murder of the acupuncturist. Moreover, the authorities released the suspect from custody following a $1 million bail.

Acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara Murdered

The police charged a 34-year-old man in connection with the murder of acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara in Waipahu in January. As of January 13, Tokuhara’s mother discovered her son fatally shot inside his clinic, Tokuhara Acupuncture and Healthcare at the Waipahu Depot Street. Around 8 am, the medical officers received a call for assistance. Upon arrival, they found him dead with fatal injuries. According to court documents, the medical exam iner in Honolulu declared the death to be a homicide. Reports revealed that he died due to a gunshot causing a severe wound on his head.

Eric Thompson was to appear in court on Thursday. Upon his initial appearance in Honolulu District Court, Eric H. Thompson will face charges of second-degree murder and carrying or using a firearm during a separate felony offense. The police arrested him at 6:10 pm Monday in Wailupe. After Thompson posted $1 million in aggregate bail, the police released him three hours later.

Eric Thompson’s Wife’s Extra-Marital Affair

Eric Thompson’s wife and Tokuhara allegedly had an affair in 2021, and when her husband found out about the affair, Thompson’s wife ended the relationship with Tokuhara. As well as revealing explicit photos and videos, they talked about their intimate relationship and their fear of Thompson finding out about them. While Thompson’s wife could not leave her husband, it appears that Tokuhara wanted a long-term relationship with her. Police affidavits reveal that detectives uncovered a series of text conversations between Tokuhara and Thompson’s wife concerning their relationship from May to July 2021. The last time they exchanged messages on Instagram was on July 23, 2021.

In their investigation, police recovered surveillance video from businesses in Waipahu and close to Thompson’s home in East Honolulu. The police executed a search warrant at Thompson’s house on February and found 12 firearms registered under his name. During the search, the police recovered two additional firearms. Shockingly, they were not registered in Hawaii.
