VIDEO: Jason Jones Fire Incident Explained as Video Shows Man Went Up in Flames After Police Fired Tase

On Friday, 7th January 2022, New York Attorney General Letitia James released a video of Jason Jones. Jason, a 29-year-old man from Catskill passed away on December 15. He got into a horrifying fire incident and after that, he spent 47 days on life support. The incident took place in the Catskill Police Station.

A police officer shot Jason with a taser gun and got engulfed in flames. The shot by the taser gun got ignited due to the hand sanitizer he applied on his upper body. After spending more than six weeks later under treatment, Jason Jones passed away in the hospital. Jason entered in a tussle with officers.

The three officers present at the moment ran away from the lobby after the incident. The investigation is still going on. Greene County District Attorney, Joseph Stanzione stated that it was a terrible tragedy.

Jason Jones Fire Incident Explained

On October 30, 2021, Jason Jones got into the Catskill Police Station lobby. During that incident, he got into a hustle with three police officers. During the tussle, Jason removed his shirt, tossed his shoes and covered his upper body in sanitiser. The police officer tried to calm the man using a taser but due to a chemical reaction, it caught fire. Three officers ran out of the lobby while Jason struggled with flames.

The officials stood at the corner and shut the door of the lobby. The video out that captured everything was of 49 seconds. After extinguishing the flames, the officers came back into the lobby and tried to speak with him. Paramedics also reached and took him for treatment at Westchester Medical Center Trauma & Burn Center. The wild flames damaged Jason’s lungs and due to this, he faced difficulty in breathing.

The officers stated that Jason was an emotionally distressed individual. He caught him after a disturbance report at the Avalon Lounge in nearby Water & Church Streets. They tried to take him into custody that resulted in a fight.

The attorney of the Jones family-Kevin Luibrand said that is not the way to handle an individual with poor mental health. He called out the officer for harming an innocent individual. The taser is of 50,000 volts of electricity and police are not allowed to use that under such circumstances.
