Tory Lanez’s request to be released on bond while appealing the sentence he received for shooting Megan Thee Stallion was reportedly denied. According to court documents that were obtained by legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff on Friday (Oct. 27), a judge for the California Court of Appeal denied Tory Lanez’s request to be released while his appeal is pending. “Appellant hasn’t demonstrated that the superior court unfairly refused relief or established through convincing and obvious proof entitlement to relief,” the court’s decision states. Tory Lanez has been pushing out all the stops to try to overcome his present predicament since being convicted guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion last December. Tory Lanez was convicted and sentenced to ten years in jail in August following failing to obtain a new trial.

Tory’s appeal lawyers’ first bid for bail was denied by a court on September 14. He was then sent to North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, to begin his term. Tory’s team subsequently appealed the motion to the California Court of Appeal, but it was denied. Tory Lanez, actual name Daystar Peterson, Megan Thee Stallion, and Megan’s former companion, Kelsey Nicole Harris, were all riding around in Los Angeles on July 12, 2020, when a dispute erupted, resulting in Megan being shot in both of her feet. Tory’s defence attorneys questioned whether the rapper-singer had shot Megan during his shooting trial. Finally, the jury convicted Tory guilty of allegations of assault with a firearm, possessing a loaded, unlicensed firearm, and careless discharge of a firearm.

Judge Denies Tory Lanez’ New Bail Request for Prison Release

Tory Lanez’s latest bid for freedom was rebuffed Thursday by the California Court of Appeal, which denied his request to be released on bond while he pursues the verdict for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. The musician, born Daystar Peterson, had earlier requested his trial court judge for freedom following his conviction last December but had been denied, laying the scenario for his subsequent request & refusal in the state appellate court’s 2nd District. Tory Lanez as well as his lawyers stated in his most recent unsuccessful bail motion that he “is unlikely to flee and does not pose a threat to the well-being of any other individual or the community.” “He simply seeks to provide for his family & make a living as is permissible pending the result of his appeal,” according to his motion, which Rolling Stone obtained on October 5. Justice Lee Smalley Edmon, presiding judge of the 2nd District, observed in her written opinion that Peterson is a Canadian citizen who had his bail increased or amended numerous times during his prosecution, implying that “there were worries regarding appellant being a potential flight risk.” She also stated that the new laws mentioned in Peterson’s motion had not yet been signed into law, therefore it did not apply. The law is about felony enhancements. “In assessing whether the defendant poses an imminent threat to the community, the court must take into consideration the fact that the appellant is charged with a violent felony” the judge emphasized.

“As a result of this record, the appellant did not establish that the trial court unfairly denied relief or established otherwise through clear and convincing evidence access to relief.” In the shooting case, Peterson, 31, is currently serving a 10-year sentence at North Kern State Prison. A jury convicted him guilty last December of shooting pop artist Megan Thee Stallion in both feet during an alcohol-fueled altercation on July 12, 2020. The rapper attempted to blame Megan’s friend and assistant, Kelsey Harris, for the shooting, but the jury was unconvinced. Megan testified for three hours during the trial about the horrifying shooting & the harassment she had from Peterson and his admirers in the aftermath. The two-week trial featured mind-boggling testimony from Harris, who was in the SUV on the morning of the shooting and made an 80-minute recorded testimony to authorities in September 2022, vividly recalling Peterson shooting five shots, landing Megan injured on the ground. The Los Angeles jury convicted Peterson on all three counts after seven hours of deliberation, concluding that he attacked Megan with a semi-automatic firearm, causing serious bodily harm, discharged the weapon with gross carelessness, as well as possessed the concealed, unlicensed weapon inside his SUV.
