Tom Cruise recorded a video message to remember the renowned entertainment litigator and his friend, Bert Fields.

Tom Cruise recalled the first time he met Bert Fields while he was recording a video message for the late renowned entertainment litigator’s memorial service.
The Top Gun star shared that he bumped into Fields while he was attending a dinner party alongside Dustin Hoffman.
Additionally, the 60-year-old actor revealed that he was seated next to Fields, and shortly after they started talking. Cruise claimed that during the exchange he noticed that he was different.
Furthermore, he remembers Fields as one of the most fascinating people he’d ever met.
Cruise went on to explain that they talked history and swapped stories which made their conversation so compelling.
The father of three added that he hired Fields on the spot when the latter mentioned that he was Hoffman’s lawyer.
Cruise said, ‘Bert Fields was a gentleman; an extraordinary human being. He had a powerful intellect, a keen wit, and charm that made one enjoy every minute of his company. I loved him dearly and always will. It was a privilege to be his friend.’
Meanwhile, back in 2001, Fields filed a $100 million lawsuit against a magazine for claiming Cruise to be gay and falsely stating that they have an X-rated clip as evidence.
However, the case was eventually settled with the publication admitting that, ‘Tom Cruise does not appear on the videotape. [He] is not and never has been, homosexual and has never had a homosexual affair.’

In August, Bert Fields’ law firm, Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger Llp released a statement announcing his death.
Subsequently, his memorial service was on October 2nd at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica.
Jeffrey Katzenberg, Fields’ friend and longtime client, delivered an in-person remark during the service.
He said, ‘Bert Fields, my lawyer, dear friend, and trusted confidante for over 40 years, was one of the most extraordinary men I have ever met.’
The 71-year-old Hollywood’s top executive producer added, ‘Bert was that rare person who could achieve just about anything. He was a brilliant litigator, scholar, lecturer, historian, and author. He was extremely witty and charming with all the elegance of a true gentleman. But he also had the determination and grit of a street fighter.’
