What if you want eggs for breakfast but you don’t want to give up that leftover pizza? Well, look no further than TikTok’s new Pizza Eggs fad. Here’s what it is and how it got started.

On TikTok, pizza and eggs are colliding in an unexpected way

Foodies have been pairing the two for so long that the hashtag #pizzaeggs has amassed more than 1.9 million views on Vine.

Some of the app’s most popular viral recipe videos feature eggs and common pizza toppings like a classic omelet, while others feature actual leftover pizza pieces and scrambled eggs.

With her pizza eggs video, Elyse Myers, who has the most views on TikTok, uses butter, pre-cooked chicken, pepperoni, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, eggs, and cheese.

“This was an original cuisine that arose from me attempting to eat up all the leftovers in the fridge,” Myers told Fox News Digital. “It evolved over time, and we finally called it ‘pizza eggs’ since we ate it so much.”

“It tastes like a spicy sausage, egg, and cheese scramble,” she said.

In lieu of Myers’ pizza-inspired egg meal, other TikTok users have opted to fry leftover pizza and fresh eggs in a skillet. Shay Spence, a self-described “professional eater,” adds eggs to leftover pizza to spice it up.

How do food experts feel about pizza eggs?

“Eggs are a good protein source and have a mild flavor,” Kimberly Baker, director of Clemson University’s Clemson Extension Food Systems and Safety Program, told Fox News Digital. “They may pair nicely with many other foods.”

“Eggs cook quickly with little equipment and cleanup, and pizza is a food that most Americans enjoy and can customize with their favorite toppings,” she noted. “As a result, it’s a recipe that many people want to try after seeing how easy it is to create on social media since it combines ease of preparation, tastes that blend well with practically everyone’s taste preference, and a nutritionally dense dish.”
