Sony Sold Over 10 Million PlayStation 5 Units Globally

With the sale of more than 10 million consoles, the PlayStation 5(PS5) has become the fastest-selling console in the history of Sony Interactive Entertainment. PS5 has outpaced the sale of PS4 and is has broken all the records. The Company however is facing constraints in supply as the demand is getting higher and higher.

“we… still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PlayStation 5 (PS5) continues to outstrip the supply,” says Jim Ryan, President, and CEO of SIE. While demand for the game continues to rise globally, Sony is having a hard time maintaining its supply and meet the adequate stock. Apart from this, the mid-year slump has been another reason for the decline in sales. 

Online channels like amazon have played a great role in supplying the consoles to the customers. This play station comes in two variants- the first is with a disc called a standard variant with a price of Rs. 49,990 and the other one is without the disc priced Rs. 39,990. The other exclusive games that come from play station studios include a new God of War from Santa Monica Studios, Gran Turismo 7 from Polyphony digital, and Horizon Forbidden West from Guerilla Games. According to Company’s blog post, the other influential games are Battlefield 2042 from  Electronic Art, DEATH LOOP from Bethesda, Far Cry 6 from Ubisoft, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits from Ember Lab.

However, Microsoft had also released its X-Box One Era consoles, and its CEO announced, “The Xbox series S and X are our fastest selling consoles ever, the consoles sold life-to-date than any previous generation.” But the company has now stopped sharing the statistics showing the total number of sales.

The thing that amazed the people is that these millions of consoles were sold during the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
