As the future of “Vanderpump Rules” remains uncertain, Scheana Shay has claimed that executive producer Alex Baskin issued a stark warning to the cast about the show’s potential cancellation. During a recent episode of her “Scheananigans” podcast, the 39-year-old reality star shared that midseason, Baskin told the cast that certain conditions had to be met, or the show would face a shortened season and possible termination.

“I know Alex Baskin has said that midseason, the show was not in a good place,” Shay revealed. “It was, you know, ‘X, Y, and Z needs to happen. Or we’re going to have a short season and the show’s going to be canceled and that’s it. Go live your lives.'”

The warning put immense pressure on Scheana Shay and her co-star Lala Kent to ensure the content was compelling enough to keep the show afloat. “Well, we don’t want the show to get canceled,” Shay explained. “Not just for ourselves and our families, but there’s a crew of 80 to 100 people who work on this show.” She emphasized the responsibility they felt towards the crew, underscoring their motivation to continue delivering engaging content.

Scheana Shay criticized fellow cast member Ariana Madix for leaving a group event during the season finale, as Madix did not want to film with her ex, Tom Sandoval, following his affair with Raquel Leviss. “When someone does just walk away, they don’t care if the show ends, it’s not just about us,” Shay commented. “There’s so many more people that do rely on this, and that’s where it just got really hard because I’m like, I do understand and respect your boundaries, but it just made it really difficult.”

Madix defended her decision to walk away at the Season 11 reunion, arguing that it created a more authentic ending for the season and set up the potential for another season. “Was that not a better ending to your season to give you another season for another paycheck?” she countered when questioned by Kent.

On her podcast, Shay expressed understanding for both sides of the situation. “I always see both sides. I completely understand Lala [pressuring Madix to film with Sandoval],” she said. “Then I also understand Ariana being like, ‘But this isn’t real and we’re supposed to film our real lives.'”

Scheana Shay highlighted the difficulties of the season, noting that the cast felt they had to “walk on eggshells” between respecting Madix’s boundaries and providing producers with enough drama to create a successful season. An insider told Page Six in April that the show was being put on a brief pause before a potential Season 12 so everyone could “decompress after two very rough, intense seasons.”

Despite these challenges, Bravo’s Andy Cohen appeared unfazed about the show’s hiatus. “We used to do this all the time with the ‘Housewives,'” he explained. “We would say, ‘You know what, let’s put cameras down for four or five months and come back to them.’ And they will have lived life and things will be different.”

As fans await news about the future of “Vanderpump Rules,” Shay’s revelations highlight the high stakes and pressures faced by reality TV stars and producers alike.
