Legendary rapper Scarface, known for his gritty lyrics and influential career, has always shown resilience, both in his music and in life. On October 8, the iconic “F*ck You Too” rapper offered fans a promising update about his health, following a major medical procedure earlier this year.

In an Instagram post, Scarface, whose real name is Brad Jordan, revealed that he had undergone open-heart surgery six weeks ago. The rap legend hadn’t previously shared details about the procedure, but on August 23, he had hinted at being hospitalized for a serious condition. Now, the Texas-based rapper has opened up about the surgery and his recovery, expressing immense gratitude for his survival.

“Six weeks ago I underwent open-heart surgery,” Scarface shared in his Instagram caption. “To be upright and smiling today shows you that God ain’t nothing to play with. I’m grateful—it could’ve gone either way, but I’m still alive.”

Scarface’s optimistic outlook on life isn’t surprising to those familiar with his health battles over the years. In 2020, the rapper contracted COVID-19, an experience he documented on social media, offering fans a glimpse into the toll t he virus took on his body. Unfortunately, the virus caused long-term damage to his kidneys, and in 2021, Scarface underwent a kidney transplant, with his son, Chris Jordan, generously donating one of his kidneys to save his father’s life.

In a candid moment shared on Instagram Live after the transplant, Scarface emotionally thanked his son for the lifesaving gesture, jokingly calling him “selfish” for not letting him die. The rapper’s gratitude for his second chance at life was clear, and it’s a sentiment he continues to express now, following his successful heart surgery.

Despite the physical challenges he’s faced, Scarface remains hopeful for a full recovery, much like he did after his kidney transplant. His latest post, which showed him smiling on stage just in time for the 2025 Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas, underscores his determination. At the awards, he was honored alongside fellow rap legends like Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee, and Roxanne Shanté.

This isn’t the first time Scarface has confronted serious health scares. In addition to the kidney transplant, he previously dealt with dialysis after his kidneys were damaged during his battle with COVID-19. His son, Chris, who helped save his life, also launched the Wayne C. Wilson Quality of Life Foundation after recovering from donating his kidney. The foundation aims to raise awareness about organ donation and promote better health within the African American community, focusing on preventing kidney failure caused by conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Scarface’s journey, filled with both personal and physical battles, has been one of courage and survival. His latest health update reassures fans that despite his recent heart surgery, he is on the path to recovery, continuing to celebrate life with gratitude and a fighting spirit.

As Scarface continues to recover, fans can revisit his powerful performance at the Tiny Desk Concert from last year—a celebration of his endurance, both as an artist and a survivor.
