Russell Crowe is thinking about retiring from public life when he reaches the age of 60. As he approaches a major milestone in April, the ‘Gladiator’ star says that his life will either take one of two paths: either he will continue to work into his 80s, like Sir Ridley Scott, or he will leave Hollywood completely and never return. At the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, Crowe said: “You stand in front of the mirror and wonder, ‘You just don’t know who you are?’ I am currently experiencing that phase. Ridley Scott is my role model since he is constantly exploring new things. Or I’ll just stop talking and you’ll never hear from me again.

I haven’t determined what it will be. These two constitute very viable options.” During the press conference, Russell Crowe mentioned one of Scott’s next projects – a sequel to his 2000 smash ‘Gladiator’ – and insisted he doesn’t want to be asked any additional questions about the film because he has no involvement. He told Variety, “They should f**** pay me for the number of questions I get about a film I’m not even in.” It has nothing at all to do with me. In that universe, I am no longer alive [his character is no longer alive]. Six feet down. But I have to say that I’m a little jealous, because it reminded me of when I was younger and exactly what it meant to me in my life.

Gladiator Star Russell Crowe Is Thinking About Retiring From Public Life When He Reaches The Age Of 60

Russell Crowe is a major movie star, but he might not be for long. As he approaches his 60th birthday next year, the actor is contemplating retirement from the industry that made him renowned, saying at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival that he is unsure whether fading into obscurity is the appropriate choice for him at this juncture in his life. “Who the f— is that?” you wonder when you look in the mirror. Variety reports that he expressed his feelings about aging. I am currently in that phase. Ridley Scott is my role model since he is constantly exploring new things in his work. Or I’ll just stop talking & you’ll never hear from me anymore. I haven’t determined what it will be. These are two excellent options. Ridley Scott is 85 years old and has 20 projects in the works, according to his IMDb website. Meanwhile, Crowe is working on eight films. The planned sequel to “Gladiator,” one of his most famous films, is one he isn’t associated with, but that doesn’t stop him from talking about it. He added during the festival, “They should f—ing pay me for the amount of questions I get about a film I’m not even in.” It has nothing whatsoever to do with me. In that universe, I am no longer alive. Six feet down.

But I have to say that I’m a little jealous since it recalls me of when I was younger as well as what it meant to me in my life. I don’t know anything about the cast, and I don’t know anything concerning the plot, he continued. I’m no longer alive! But I know Ridley had to have had very good reasons to undertake a second half of the story almost 20 years later. I can’t imagine this film being anything less than magnificent, he said. While he now fondly recalls his performance as Maximus, he claimed in an April interview with Vanity Fair that he practically walked out on the film because he didn’t like the script. The idea behind what we were doing was fantastic, but the script was terrible. Absolute nonsense. And it had all these weird sequences, you know. He mentioned one of them was about chariots. Despite the fact that all of the storylines were true, Crowe was concerned that nothing would resonate with audiences. It’s just not going to ring true with a modern audience. ‘What the f— is all this?’ they’ll exclaim. While Crowe examines his future intentions, he still has a few projects he wants to work on personally. In addition to his prospective acting assignments, he has produced a few documentaries that he is not yet ready to release.
