Ricky Gervais faces heat over new anti-trans jokes on his latest Netflix stand-up comedy

Ricky Gervais’ new Netflix comedy special premiered on Tuesday, and the gags about transgender people have already sparked outrage. The British comedian’s presentation “SuperNature” takes a provocative. No holds barred approach, including jokes about transgender individuals, Africans, Chinese people, Holocaust victims, worldwide pandemics, paedophilia, and other issues. “AIDS, starvation, cancer, the Holocaust, rape, and paedophilia are all topics I discuss. But identity politics is not one of them. The topic of transgender people should never be joked about. ‘All they want is to be treated fairly,’ I agree. I mention these because of this.
Ricky Gervais cracks a joke
During his stand-up routine, Ricky cracks jokes. “Old-fashioned women” are “the ones with wombs,” while “modern women” are “the ones with beards and (penises),” according to him. Ahead of the 2020 Golden Globes: Ricky Gervais, the host, attempts to explain contentious jokes. In a simulated dispute sparked by “old-fashioned ladies,” Ricky Gervais then takes aim at pronouns.
“What happens if he rapes me? What happens if she rapes you, you TERF? “In a back-and-forth conversation, the comic adds. Trans exclusionary radical feminists (TERF) is an abbreviation for trans exclusionary radical feminists. Feminists who are transphobic are referring to as transphobic feminists.
Ricky Gervais criticises Kevin Hart
Ricky Gervais then criticises “poor Kevin Hart” for declining to host the 2018 Oscars after his previous homophobic statements were revealed. The comic returns to trans individuals. Implying that belonging to the group is today the thing that will get you fired. He claims that “you can’t forecast what will be objectionable in the future.” He also quips that he wishes gender identity had existed when he was a youngster so he could have threatened his parents with either becoming trans or getting him a new bike if he was trans. Later, he admits to being “childish” and using “misinformed” speech, but he prefers to be controversial in humour.
