During the May 23 hearing of their ongoing defamation trial, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Q score came up. During cross-examination, Depp’s lawyer asked entertainment expert Kathryn Arnold if Heard’s “negative Q Score” had hampered her career.

Depp’s career had been thriving prior to 2018, as he had appeared in several films. From Alice Through the Looking Glass to Pirates of the Caribbean, the actor had a successful career.

However, things have recently changed, as Johnny Depp has not appeared in a film since 2018. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was his most recent appearance.

In response, Arnold informed the court that Heard had previously received a low score. “Q scores change all the time, Amber’s has been as low as one,” she explained.

Everything you need to know about the Q score

Accord ing to Variety, Q Score is used in marketing to determine an actor’s fame and popularity. This is typically used to estimate how much an actor should be paid for his role in a film for an advertisement.

According to reports, the methodology has been used for over 50 years and is typically calculated using two sets of questions. To begin, respondents are asked if they are familiar with a specific product or performer. The number of “yes” answers is then used to calculate the familiarity score.

After answering “yes” to the first question, respondents are asked whether they would rate it/them as poor, fair, good, very good, or one of their favorites.

The popularity score is then calculated by calculating the percentage of people who are aware of the product or performer and regard it as their favorite.

The Q score is then computed by dividing the popularity score by the familiarity score and subtracting the decimal points. The measurement technique’s name was also inspired by the simple division methodology, as the “Q” in the name stands for “quotient.”

This score also considers the awards an actor or actress has received, as well as how well their films have performed.

How does Johnny Depp rank in Q score in 2015?

Johnny Depp was at the pinnacle of his fame in 2015, and the roles he took at the time reflected that. According to The Wrap, Johnny Depp had a Q score of 88 in 2015. Sandra Bullock was the other actress who received this rating.

Depp’s Q score afterward saw a drop

While Depp received several perfect ratings in 2015, things changed in 2016. According to Variety, Depp’s lawyers brought Douglas Bania, who had studied the actor’s Q scores, to the 2022 defamation case

He claimed that after the op-ed was published, Depp’s public image suffered. Douglas went on to say that Depp had a positive Q Score of 35 and a negative Q Score of 11 in 2016.

Meanwhile, in 2018, he received 31 positive votes and 16 negative votes. In 2019, his score fell even further, with 29 positives and 15 negatives.
