Moreover, they become the second-ever Global Icon recipients in the United States of America.

However, while accepting the honor, Smith

went on to dedicate the win to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

He mentioned, ‘There’s another musical icon, global icon and his name is my brother Taylor Hawkins.’

The 60-year-old drummer continued, ‘I want to dedicate this to Taylor and his family. I love them, and I miss him every day. Fly on, Hawk. Fly on, brother.’

If you didn’t know, Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room in Colombia this year in March. He passed away at the age of 50. Moreover, the Foo Fighters were the recipient of the Global Icon Award last year.

More about Red Hot Chili Pepper’s win

Before walking away with the award, Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage to perform their hit songs. They sang their recent track ‘Black Summer’ along with their classic single ‘Can’t Stop’ which was a part of their 2002 album By the Way.

Furthermore, Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin presented them with the award. Regardless, Anthony Kiedis took the mic first to thank the comedy icons and call them, ‘some bad mother…flip-flops.’

Shortly after the 59-year-old singer began his speech by saying, ‘I did want to thank the sassy mistress known as MTV for supporting us for a thousand years and more.’

He further added, ‘But really, really, really I want to thank Flea and John and Chad Smith… for giving me a purpose in my life for the last 40 years. I would’ve been a free-floating disaster in space if not for these boys, so thank you boys for giving me something to do with my life and love.’

Flea on the other hand proudly shared his love for ‘cockroaches and dirt and trees and every human being’ while thanking his bandmates and family.
