Rachel Nichols is joining the sports division at Showtime. She will supposedly serve as a host and producer at the basketball content vertical on the unit.

Brian Dailey, senior vice president of sports programming and content for Showtime broke the news about Nichols in a recent interview.

He announced, ‘We are delighted to welcome Rachel Nichols to the Showtime Basketball family. Rachel brings unmatched journalistic credibility, a great familiarity with our roster, and a work ethic that will take us to another level.’

Rachel Nichols addressed  her exit from ESPN

Rachel Nichols talked about her departure from ESPN during a recent All The Smoke With Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, a Showtime Basketball video podcast.

She said, ‘I’ve been so fortunate to live my dream job alongside some of the best journalists in the business for more than 25 years, and this new development deal with Showtime Sports gives me my most broad playing field yet.’

Furthermore, the veteran television sports host added, ‘They’ve asked me to produce, create and host new sports programming across platforms, working alongside Hall of Famers, multiple guys with championship rings, and an uber-creative team behind the camera. We’re going to have so much fun.’

Nichols’s interview comes after her controversial leave from Walt Disney’s ESPN. She was caught in a dispute with her previous employer when a video recording of her went viral.

In the clip, Nichols is seen complaining about her fellow colleague, Maria Taylor. She expressed her disappointment over a role that was guaranteed to Nichols but was later awarded to Taylor.

Moreover, the video began internal complaints and division inside ESPN. Eventually, the sports-media giant fired both Nichols and Taylor and ended up canceling the former’s daily basketball show, The Jump.

Nevertheless, Nichols publicly apologized to Taylor for her remarks.

She noted, ‘I feel very sorry that any of this touched Maria Taylor because she is a fellow woman in this business. It wasn’t her fault that any of this was going on.’
