It looks like LVMH has made the biggest announcement in the fashion industry by appointing Pharrell Williams to lead menswear collections at Louis Vuitton as their new creative director. Over the past twenty years, Williams has established himself as a cultural, global icon. He will reveal his first collection for Louis Vuitton during the Men’s Fashion Week in Paris this June. He is described as a visionary whose creative universes span music, art, and fashion. Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, welcomed the Grammy-winning producer and rapper, praising the new creative director in a statement: I am pleased to welcome Pharrell back home as our new Men’s Creative Director, following our collaborations for Louis Vuitton in 2004 and 2008.

A new and exciting chapter awaits Louis Vuitton under his creative vision beyond fashion. Williams isn’t new to the fashion industry. Along with his collaborations with French fashion brand Maison Margiela, he also collaborated with sportswear giant Adidas and luxury brands Moncler and Chanel. Additionally, he worked with Marc Jacobs on the design of eyewear for LV. As well as co-founding Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear, Williams dabbled in skincare with Humanrace. The predecessor of Williams, Abloh, was dubbed the Karl Lagerfeld of his generation, elevated streetwear to a new level of luxury, and opened the doors to creativity and diversity beyond the realm of fashion.

Louis Vuitton Announces Pharrell Williams As Its New Creative Director For Men

On Tuesday, LVMH’s leading brand Louis Vuitton announced it had hired Pharrell Williams to oversee its menswear designs. Williams is a popular musician who filled the vacant position left vacant after the death of Virgil Abloh more than a year ago. Pharrell Williams has been named as the new Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, the company announced in a tweet, confirming previous reports from the Wall Street Journal and French daily Le Figaro. Men’s Fashion Week in Paris will host Williams’ first collection for the label in June. Producer and singer Williams achieved fame in the music industry with hits like Happy and Blurred Lines. As a judge on the popular singing competition show The Voice, he has won 13 Grammy awards. Pharrell Williams was nominated for two Oscars for his song Happy, which was written for the animated film Despicable Me 2. As a producer of Hidden Figures, he received his second Academy Award nomination. Additionally, Pharrell Williams has extensive experience in the fashion industry. His co-founding of the label Billionaire Boys Club with Japanese designer Nigo in 2003 was instrumental in the rise of streetwear, and he has collaborated with Adidas, Moncler, and Chanel.

Marc Jacobs and he collaborated on eyewear for Louis Vuitton in 2004. Pharrell Williams created a buzz last year when he showed up wearing diamond-studded glasses made by Tiffany for Nigo’s debut fashion show for LVMH-owned Kenzo – another design project with LVMH. Louis Vuitton’s newly appointed CEO, Pietro Beccari, makes his first move with the appointment. Williams fills the big shoes left by Virgil Abloh, said analysts at Credit Suisse, noting that the new CEO’s significant move suggests the brand will continue its relationship with pop culture. Abloh, who died in November 2021, was one of fashion’s most prominent Black designers, blending influences like graffiti art and skateboard culture in his style. Since then, the label’s design studios have incorporated Abloh’s designs, featuring performers ranging from Florida’s Marching 100 band to rapper Kendrick Lamar to Spanish singer Rosalia.
