Pfizer comes under fire for sponsoring Sam Smith’s Unholy Grammy performance
Sam Smith and Kim Petras performed their viral song Unholy at the 2023 Grammy Awards this Sunday.
However, their performance was deemed ‘satanic’ after Smith was seen wearing devil horns when he took the stage at the Recording Academy.
Meanwhile, a commercial for Pfizer was played immediately after their performance which led netizens to question the company sponsoring it.
In addition, a spokesperson of the pharmaceutical company released a statement to Newsweek to address the issue.
They said, ‘We sponsored the overall Grammy’s event, not any particular performance. Beyond that, we don’t comment on our efforts to raise awareness.’

Although their performance garnered significant backlash on the internet, Smith and Petras made history by winning the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at Grammys.
The Stay With Me singer became the first non-binary musician to win the award while Petras was the first transgender woman.
Smith came out as non-binary in 2019 and uses they/them pronouns. Petras on the other hand underwent gender confirmation surgery when she was only sixteen years old.
Besides that, the track Unholy was dropped in September 2022 and has been topping several charts since its release.
The Grammys was held on 5th February at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The show included many iconic moments including Harry Styles bagging the acclaimed Album of the Year award for Harry’s House.
