Pete Davidson and Late-Night Hosts Stand Strong in Writers’ Strike
3 min readThere’s not much worse than standing at a picket line filled with WGA members, especially since protesters get treated to live music and free food courtesy of some pretty big stars. As of Friday, the union has suspended all work for the 4th consecutive day, with WGA members and even pre-WGA members striking outside Disney, Paramount, and Warner Brothers studios. Pete Davidson, an alum of ‘SNL,’ was among the celebrities who showed their support for the strike … providing boxes of pizza for those marching for hours at a New York strike.

The gang from ‘Late-Night’ served waffle food to protesters outside Paramount and Netflix on the West Coast. AKA the late-night talk show hosts include Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver. As it turns out, Kimmel’s assistant made the call on his show brothers’ behalf, ordering food for 600 people… and even giving them a discount! Also, Netflix had a live mariachi band outside. The writer, actress, and producer Mindy Kaling was also on the Paramount lot, asking executives to pay living wages to thousands who feel cheated by streamers and AI. There was a strike in 2007-2008 that lasted 100 days before an agreement was reached.

There Is Still No Sign Of A Break In The Writers’ Strike Thanks To Pete Davidson, Late-Night Hosts, And Others
As part of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Hollywood actor Pete Davidson expressed his support for the writers. A portal reports that the comedian handed out pizza to strikers outside Silvercup Studios in New York City on Friday, May 5. In honor of the occasion, the ‘King of Staten Island’ star donned a black hoodie emblazoned with the logo of his new Peacock series, ‘Bupkis’. On the chilly streets, he smiled while delivering boxes of pizza to the writers. A clip circulated online that showed the comedian saying, “There are no shows without writers.” Additionally, he was seen holding a sign and picketing. He gave the camera an enthusiastic thumbs-up at one point. In response to the strike, Pete decided to make a generous donation after he discovered that his hosting gig on ‘SNL’ had been cancelled. In the May 6 episode, ‘The Suicide Squad’ actor, who left the hit comedy series in 2022, was scheduled to host. In the midst of a dispute over salaries, Pete was the latest celebrity to show support for the writers. As part of Wednesday’s WGA strikes, ‘Yellowjackets’ actor Sammi Hanratty and ‘Abbott Elementary’ creator Quinta Brunson brandished picket signs.
In addition to helping to pay their employees, The Tonight Show star Jimmy Fallon and ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ star Seth Meyers support their crews throughout the production break periods associated with their respective shows. Staff on the shows will be paid until the end of next week, whereas the two late-night talk show hosts will be paid for the third week. Employees were notified on Wednesday morning, May 3, during production calls, according to sources, with the hosts directly participating. According to reports, employees of the shows will also receive healthcare coverage through September. Mindy Kaling, Jonathan Nolan, Rachel Bloom, and cast members from NCIS and Ordinary Joe were among those on the picket lines outside of Paramount. In the final hours of the first week of the strike, Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg danced on the streets. Isn’t it true that this week has been fantastic? We’d all rather be working, I mean. We are all looking for a fair contract. This isn’t a vacation… But seeing each other has energised us all. We believe in this cause and are willing to fight for as long as it takes. Derek Haas, co-creator of One Chicago, and Jesse Lee Soffer, star of Chicago PD, were both seen outside the studio on Melrose.
