The New York Mets verified the news and said:
“Today, The Mets family feels so disheartened to hear of the loss to their family. Pedro Feliciano will always be memorialized as a beloved member of the Mets organization. For his impression as a great teammate and reputation as one of the most competitive, durable, and reliable relievers during his time in Queens. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family of Perpetual Pedro. Rest in peace, Pedro.”
“Perpetual Pedro” – the nickname he earned by Gary Cohen with his smashing performances in many leagues. He was found dead in Puerto Rico at home in his sleep on Monday.
The New York Mets star player David Wright also said, “In all my years in baseball, I never saw a left-handed relief specialist that had such an impression in our clubhouse. Pedro had a great personality.”

Pedro has pitched 484 games overall, the second-most on the New York Met list behind John Franco’s 695. He worked a total of 383 2/3 innings. Feliciano made the majors in occurrences in the years 2008, 2009, and 2010. From 2007 to 2010, the Major League Baseball record, Pedro made 344 relief appearances over those four years consecutively.

In the spring training, doctors found a small hole in the exterior of his heart. As per the reports, he was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called left ventricular noncompaction. It was caused by the failure of myocardial development from birth. Pedro wore a heart monitor when he began pitching in exhibition games later that spring. Feliciano made 0-2 with a 3.97 ERA over 25 games in the final big league season.
