The 95th Oscars will be hosted by popular television personality and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel joked about strict policies during his monologue in reference to last year’s Will Smith and Chris Rock slap. Talk show hosts making jokes about the topic, however, do not sit well with fans. Additionally, many are unimpressed by the fact that he is hosting a prestigious event in the entertainment industry. In addition to impersonating NBA star Karl Malone and other African American celebrities, Kimmel has a history of Blackface sketches. A statement issued by the Oscars 2023 host in 2020 explained his actions and stated he had impersonated Malone on TV during the late 90s.

In order to make him look as close to Karl Malone as possible, makeup artists were hired. According to him, I have long been reluctant to address this issue, because I knew that doing so would be celebrated as a victory by those who view apologies as weakness and embrace leaders who use prejudice to divide us. He apologised to those who were genuinely hurt or offended by his makeup and words and added that viewers’ respect is the most important thing to him.

The Internet Tears Into Jimmy Kimmel Slap Jokes About Will Smith As The Oscars 2023 Host Is Accused Of Blackface

Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre hosted the 95th Academy Awards ceremony on Monday. It was a nostalgic but roasting start to Hollywood’s popular award show. According to Variety, host Jimmy Kimmel joked about Will Smith’s infamous slap last year, but kept his slap jokes light. A shocking event occurred in 2022 when Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage. As Rock presented the best documentary feature category, Smith slapped him. During the interview, Rock joked about Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, which she shaved following a diagnosis of alopecia. On April 1, Smith resigned from the Academy due to backlash over his behaviour. Jimmy Kimmel made a distasteful joke about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at last year’s Oscars in his monologue for the Oscars 2023, saying that if anyone in the theatre commits an act of violence, you will win Best Actor and have a 19-minute speech.

As a result of the host’s previous use of blackface to advance in his career and make money, viewers are not pleased with his response to the slap. As one tweet stated: I know Jimmy Kimmel won’t weigh in on the dragged-on slap situation during which he had to apologize for appearing in blackface for a sketch. His impersonations of Oprah and Karl Malone were shared by others on the social media platform. In another comment, someone pointed out that Jimmy Kimmel built his career on a show with Adam Corolla where he regularly wore Blackface and mocked women. Additionally, the user said they didn’t want to hear anything about cancel culture, especially since the infamous talk show host will host the Oscars. He is part of a protected class – a liberal Jewish male in Hollywood, according to another viewer who pointed out that one reason Kimmel gets away with his actions is that he belongs to a protected class. One user called the Oscars 2023 “tone deaf” and said the committee displayed “selective outrage” by allowing the celebrity to host.
