In March 2019, OG Maco revealed that he had been battling necrotizing fasciitis, a rare but severe bacterial infection commonly referred to as a “skin-eating disease.” The condition developed after an improper treatment for what was initially thought to be a minor rash. Sharing his harrowing experience on Instagram, the Atlanta-based rapper opened up about his fears and isolation.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen, I didn’t know if I’d lose my entire face — I almost did,” Maco disclosed in a candid post. He shared images of his face and scalp covered in scabs, showing the toll the disease had taken on his appearance.
Despite the challenges, Maco found hope in his recovery journey. “So much healing has occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I’m willing to show all a fraction of what I’ve been going through,” he wrote. “This is the best it’s looked. I hope it gives someone hope.”
Maco also shed light on the emotional toll of his ordeal. “I’ve been going through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my ‘friends,’ without anything but my own strength and God,” he shared. The experience left him questioning the loyalty of those around him.
Recent Tragedy: Hospitalization with a Gunshot Wound
On December 12, 2024, OG Maco was hospitalized after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in Los Angeles. TMZ reported that authorities suspect the incident may have been an attempted suicide. A 911 call from a neighbor alerted police after a gunshot was heard coming from inside a residence.
