In an interview w ith EW, Viola Davis discussed her involvement. “It’s obviously not like any other profession,” she remarked, “since we’re playing legendary characters that people own and know.”

“I mean, with Michelle Obama, they know how she talks, walks, wears her hair, the various iterations of her eyebrows…,” she concluded. I didn’t think I could approach it in the same way as any other role.”

However, the actress confessed that working alongside O-T Fagbenle, who plays Barack Obama, was a pleasure. “I adore playing the levity and the fun of their relationship,” Davis says. “I admire how happy they are together. I’ve had a lot of experiences with wounded souls, terrible marriages, and tortured relationships. So it felt amazing to be in the midst of such a historic moment. But it was a joy to perform because I believed they had and shared a friendship, as well as Barack’s regard for Michelle.”
