Meet Josh Freese: Foo Fighters’ New Drummer Takes the Stage After Taylor Hawkins’ Tragic Passing

Foo Fighters recently revealed that Josh Freese will take on the role of the band’s drummer following the tragic death of Taylor Hawkins.

Foo Fighters took to their ‘Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts’ live stream on 21st May to welcome Josh Freese as their new drummer.

Moreover, Freese is all set to perform with the band on their upcoming 2023 summer tour.

Also, he will take the place of late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away on 25th March 2022 in the wake of an accidental overdose at the age of 50 in Bogota, Colombia.

If you didn’t know, Freese is already popular for performing alongside multiple famous artists such as Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, and Paramore.

In addition, his credits consist of Evanescence’s hit single Bring Me to Life, B*tch by Meredith Brooks as well as Good Charlotte’s The Anthem.

Besides that, the 50-year-old was one of the drummers to pay tribute to Hawkins at a couple of tribute concerts held in Los Angeles and London.

Meanwhile, the Foos are reportedly dedicating their latest album titled ‘But Here We Are’ to Hawkins and Dave Grohl’s late mother Virginia Hanlon Grohl.

Foo Fighters’ letter to fans following the death of Taylor Hawkins

Foo Fighters released a heartfelt message to their beloved fans after the devastating loss of Taylor Hawkins.

They wrote, ‘As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us.’

The Walk hitmakers continued, ‘For the past 27 years our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together.’

Furthermore, they said, ‘A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were — and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward.’

The Best of You singers added, ‘We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you and we know that when we see you again — and we will soon — he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night.’
