Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light partnership drew anti-trans backlash weeks ago, but Dylan Mulvaney is now being targeted for advertising she posted months ago, including several makeup promotions. The backlash was apparently sparked by former “trans-racial” internet personality Oli London’s Tweet misgendering Mulvaney and joking about a Maybelline partnership she’d posted. There was a pile-on started by anti-trans activist Jordan Peterson, asking followers to boycott Maybelline. MAC and Maybelline are two separate brands, not even owned by the same parent company, as some Twitter users pointed out.

The hashtag #BoycottMaybelline trended on Twitter in a similar manner as transphobes threatened to boycott Bud Light. Many users called the makeup brands “woke.” It was reported that Bud Light’s marketing vice president has resigned following weeks of backlash over Mulvaney’s partnership with the beer brand. Following the backlash, Alissa Heinerscheid, who previously defended Mulvaney’s ad as part of making Bud Light more inclusive and less “fratty”, has taken a leave of absence. Mulvaney’s ad has caused right-wingers to react intensely. Kid Rock, a Trump supporter, unloaded an assault weapon into Bud Light cans, a self-described conservative dad launched his own brand of “100 per cent woke-free beer” to rival Bud Light’s, and Budweiser facilities were threatened.

On social media, bigots are calling for a boycott of companies that have partnered with TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney. The cosmetic company Maybelline is facing backlash following the mid-March release of an Instagram video featuring actress Mulvaney. The 13-second clip shows Mulvaney using Maybelline products as she gets ready, including an under-eye concealer and lip gloss. In this video, Mulvaney approaches the 100th day since publicly identifying as a woman. After publicly documenting her journey as she transitioned from a man to a woman last year, Dylan Mulvaney went viral. During a time when transphobic rhetoric and conspiracy theories are on the rise, Dylan Mulvaney has found herself being targeted by right-wingers to spread hateful statements. A number of right-wing figures, including Jordan Peterson, called for a boycott of the cosmetic company over the weekend on Twitter. People made derogatory and transphobic comments about Mulvaney and Maybelline’s videos. As a result of the company’s partnership with a transgender woman, many customers indicated they would not buy from them in the future.

Several users on Twitter expressed support for Dylan Mulvaney’s 26-year-old influencer, including one who jokingly stated: It’s going to be great fun when the transphobes complain that they have to boycott every single makeup and fashion brand. The Bud Light’s marketing vice president stepped down from her position after weeks of bigoted backlash from right-wingers over Mulvaney’s Bud Light partnership. After the backlash of Mulvaney’s advertisement, Alissa Heinerscheid took a leave of absence from Bud Light. She previously defended Mulvaney’s move as part of trying to make Bud Light more inclusive and less “fratty”. As a result of Dylan Mulvaney’s ad, Kid Rock, a Trump supporter, loaded weapons into Bud Light cans, a conservative dad launched his own brewed beer to compete with Budweiser, and Budweiser received a bomb threat. The White House’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, condemned the violent backlash during a press briefing on Thursday (20 April), saying: When a transgender American posts a video about a beer they enjoy and it leads to bomb threats, it is clear that there needs to be an end to violence and vitriol toward transgender Americans.
