Luke Bryan came in defense of Katy Perry after she found herself in hot waters over her comments on American Idol.

Here is everything you need to know.

Luke Bryan says Katy Perry ‘gets picked on’ for ‘trying to have fun

Luke Bryan recently sat down for an interview with Fox News where he spoke in defense of Katy Perry following the backlash she is facing on American Idol.

He said, ‘Katy Perry’s been dealing with stuff like that her whole career.’

He continued, ‘We all get it… I mean, we’re judging kids that people at home fall in love with. We’re not gonna bat 1,000 as judges.’

The 46-year-old country singer stated that he, Perry, along with fellow panelist Lionel Richie are often forced into a tough position since they have to make critical remarks about the contestants viewers adore.

Moreover, he continued to defend Perry by saying that the backlash on social media is unwarranted.

He mentioned, ‘Katy gets picked on for going out and trying to have fun making a TV show.’

He added, ‘You can’t be so safe in the moment that you’re so homogenized, you can’t ever go for a joke. Or go for a fun moment. Sometimes you just gotta say stuff. It may be my year next year.’

If you didn’t know, the Firework hitmaker has been a judge on the singing reality show since its revival in 2018.

Katy Perry is facing a vast amount of criticism for her remarks about contestants

Katy Perry received extensive backlash online after she allegedly mom-shamed contestant Sarah Beth Liebe earlier this year in March during season 21 of American Idol.

Subsequently, the 38-year-old pop star seemingly made a joke about Liebe having three kids at the age of 25.

Liebe on her part called out the I Kissed A Girl musician for her critical statements.

She stated, ‘I think women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool, and I think that mom-shaming is super lame, and I think that it’s hard enough to be a mom and it’s hard enough to be a woman.’

Besides that, the Grammy winner was booed by the audience for criticizing the outfit choice of contestant Nutsa Buzaladze.

She remarked, ‘Nutsa, every time you take the stage it’s like you glitter bomb the stage.’

She added, ‘Listen, one thing that I would like to see from you is not one piece of glitter the next time. I know that is going to be hard.’
