Transphobia would not fly if more people understood its roots, according to Lizzo. The Grammy-winning singer explained her position following a growing chorus of GOP lawmakers advocating for anti-trans laws in a series of tweets Wednesday. Currently, transphobia seems to be rooted in racism. Lizzo wrote. I’ve never heard a reason why someone is racist… Or fatphobic… Neither have I heard a reason why someone is transphobic. We would have far less support for these ideals if we knew ‘why’ these people felt this way. There is a deeper meaning to the ‘why’ than we realize because it is more insidious. She added that if people knew more about prejudice, they would be less apathetic to it. Inaction on bigotry is a form of complicity, according to the 34-year-old artist.

Lizzo’s comments come at a time when the trans community is facing increased levels of discrimination and violence. In recent months, several states have passed laws that restrict the rights of trans people, including laws that ban them from participating in sports and receiving medical care. Lizzo has been a vocal supporter of the trans community for some time, using her platform to raise awareness about the issues they face and advocate for their rights. In her recent posts, she encouraged her followers to do the same, calling on them to speak out against transphobia and other forms of bigotry in all its forms. Lizzo’s comments have been met with support from many of her fans and followers, who have praised her for using her platform to raise awareness about important social issues.

About Damn Time Singer Lizzo Calls Out The ‘Complicated Silence’ Perpetuating Transphobia, Racism, And Fatphobia

Lizzo has some thoughts to share. A series of tweets the musician sent on Wednesday (March 8) shed light on the intersection of transphobia, racism, and fatphobia. Right about now, transphobia is looking really rooted in racism, she wrote in a tweet. I’ve never heard a reason why someone is racist… Or fatphobic… And I’ve never heard a reason why someone is transphobic. It is my belief that if we knew “why” these people felt this way, there would be much less support for these ideals. We don’t realize how insidious the ‘why’ is. Afterwards, the “About Damn Time” singer posted a clarification. Don’t get me wrong – I don’t care why people are bigoted, she wrote. I’m wasting my imagination on that. People seem to be complicit in silence and apathetic participation that wouldn’t fly if they knew more. Fans of hers joined in on the conversation, with one agreeing that forcing people to admit their horrible positions helps others see how terrible they are. One of my friends always says that “hate is hate,” another added. No matter what they try to tell us, it’s all intertwined and connected to each other.

Transgender people are targeted by at least 150 bills introduced by Republican politicians, most of which ban transgender youth from receiving gender-affirming healthcare. Drag shows have also been targeted by conservative lawmakers for severe crackdowns. Recent legislation passed by the Tennessee House of Representatives restricts some drag performances in public spaces due to concerns about their alleged harm to children. An Instagram video posted by drag icon RuPaul criticized anti-drag legislation and its supporters. It is well known that bullies are incompetent at solving real problems. As RuPaul explained, they try to give the impression that they are effective by picking on easy targets. It’s true that they see our love as a sign of weakness, but they’re incorrect because that is what makes us strong. A drag queen is like a Marine in a queer movement. Make sure you don’t get it twisted and don’t get distracted. Don’t miss your chance to put some smart people with real solutions in government by voting so we can get rid of these stun queens.
