Everyone remembers when Lady Gaga wore an unusual dress to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The house of Gucci actress is again in news because of her dress.

Was The Dress Made Of Actual Meat?

The dress, designed by Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti was made of real beef and gained a lot of criticism from Animal Rights Activists.

Even though Gaga took home eight of thirteen awards, she was in news for her “Unusual” style. Not just the dress, the shoes, the purse and even the little headpiece that she wore was made of beef. It contained almost 50 pounds of rib and steak. While the original dress is preserved and put in an exhibition, the copies of the dress were sold for almost $100,000. The dress was named by Time Magazine as “The Top Fashion Statement” of 2010.

After appearing in the VMAs, Lady Gaga wore a “meat bikini” for Vogue Japan.

Her looks brought her a lot of popularity and mixed opinions. Many questioned her choice and the reason behind it. While PETA ((People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) highly criticized her choice. It released a statement saying that wearing a dress made of a dead cow was highly offensive.

Lady Gaga Explains Her Choice-

Later, in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres who is a vegan and didn’t seem happy with Gaga’s choice said to her, “I get most of your outfits, just not this one.”

To this, the pop star replied, “It’s certainly no disrespect to anyone that’s vegan or vegetarian. As you know I’m the most judgment-free human being on the Earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening it’s [saying] if we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as many rights as the meat on our bones.”

The meat dress was a part of her protest against the US

What was the policy?

According to the policy, people in the military should not be asked about their sexuality. Homosexual males, bisexuals or lesbians should neither speak about their sexual orientation nor about same-sex relationships and marriages.

Lady Gaga also made a statement saying “We decided to do the meat dress because I thought to myself if we were willing to die for your country, what does it matter how you identify.”

Even though many people applauded her for the bold choice that she made some didn’t understand the need to wear a dead animal for this protest.
