Keyshia Ka’oir, the wife of rapper Gucci Mane, has come to his defense amid growing criticism that blames him for the misfortunes of several artists signed to his 1017 record label.

Keyshia Ka’oir Reacts to Gucci Mane Backlash Following Enchanting’s Death

On Tuesday, June 11, former 1017 rapper Enchanting tragically passed away at the age of 26, after being admitted to the ICU the previous night. Gucci Mane, known as Guwop, expressed his sorrow in an Instagram post: “So sad to have to say R.I.P to such a great young lady a true star we gone all miss you Chant @luvenchanting,” he wrote alongside a photo of Enchanting.

However, the comment section of his post quickly filled with accusations and speculation about a supposed curse on the 1017 label, with many blaming Gucci Mane for the series of tragic events affecting his artists.

“This is definitely suspicious. What you doing Gucci???” one commenter questioned.

“Nah I’m sorry. But at this point you got to look at 1017 with the side eye,” another user added. “How many artists is that now? Not saying it’s his fault, I’m just saying it’s like a curse. Being signed to 1017 is like a death sentence at this point.”

Keyshia Ka’oir responded to the backlash by defending her husband, emphasizing his intentions to uplift and support his artists: “Leave my husband alone!” she wrote. “He signs these artists to help them & give them a better life! I wish it wasn’t like this! Chant we love you baby girl! RIH.”

Speculation of a 1017 Curse Persists

The speculation of a curse on the 1017 label is not new. The unfortunate fates of its artists have led many to believe that there is something sinister at play. In January 2022, Hotboy Wes was arrested on a robbery charge in Texas. A few months later, in April, Pooh Shiesty was sentenced to over five years in prison after pleading guilty to a firearm conspiracy charge. By May, Foogiano received a five-year prison sentence after tampering with his ankle monitor and evading authorities while out on bond for a firearm possession charge.

In December 2022, the label faced another tragedy when Big Scarr died from an accidental prescription drug overdose. The following month, Mac Critter was arrested and charged with murder. Most recently, in February 2023, FTO Sett was arrested after his bond was revoked on weapons and drug charges.

These incidents have fueled the belief that being signed to 1017 is akin to a curse, with numerous artists encountering legal troubles or meeting tragic ends. Last year, Joe Budden suggested that the recurring issues faced by Gucci Mane’s artists were too frequent to be mere coincidence.

Despite the tragic events and speculation, Keyshia Ka’oir’s defense of Gucci Mane highlights the couple’s stance that the rapper’s intentions are to provide better opportunities for his artists, not to bring them harm. As the discussion around the so-called 1017 curse continues, the industry and fans alike are left grappling with the implications and looking for answers.
