Kate McKinnon breaks silence on her decision to leave Saturday Night Live after a decade

Kate McKinnon finally reveals her earthly decisions to depart from the iconic sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live. She starred for nearly 10 years.

Kate McKinnon talks about her reason to leave Saturday Night Live

Kate McKinnon recently sat down with Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa for Thursday’s episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan.

While talking, the actress explained her reasons to step down from the long-running sketch comedy show.

She admitted, ‘I thought about [leaving] for a very long time, and it was very, very hard.’

The 38-year-old comedian added, ‘All I ever wanted to do in my whole life was be on Saturday Night Live. So, I did, I loved it, I had the best decade, and then I was just like, my body was tired and I felt like it was time.’

Furthermore, Seacrest asked McKinnon whether she might tune in for new episodes of the show later this year.

However, the performer responded by saying that she is still figuring it out. She also shared that she is unsure to to revisit Studio 8H so soon after leaving the series.

McKinnon replied, ‘I don’t know what I will do. I don’t know that I can watch the show yet because it’s too emo because I miss everyone so much. It’s my family, it’s too emo. So I think I’m just going to tape ‘The Bachelorette’ and watch that instead.’

Kate McKinnon first debuted on Saturday Night Live in 2012 for their 37th season. She initially started as a featured player however rose to repertory status the following year for season 39.

During McKinnon’s eleven years on the show, she was nominated for ten Emmy Awards and even bagged two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

On 21st May, McKinnon announced her departure which came soon after the exit of her co-star Pete Davidson. Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney also left the series after the season 47 finale episode.

Moreover, during the finale episode, McKinnon bid farewell to the show while reprising her role as Miss Rafferty, who is often kidnapped by aliens.

While standing on a spacecraft, both McKinnon and – her character- said their goodbyes to the audience.

She said while getting emotional, ‘Well, Earth, I love you. Thanks for letting me stay awhile.’

McKinnon then placed her hand on her chest and closed the show with their iconic line, ‘Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!’
