Kardashian-Jenners Defeat Blac Chyna Defamation Trial
3 min readAccording to Entertainment Tonight, after a jury ruled in favor of Rob Kardashian and his family in her defamation trial on Monday, Blac Chyna will not be awarded any monetary damages. Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Kylie Jenner were also named in the complaint.
In 2017, Blac Chyna filed a lawsuit against the Kardashians and Jenners, alleging that as “revenge,” they had her E! reality program with Rob canceled after one season. She was suing for a total of $100 million in damages.
None of the famous family defamed Blac Chyna
The jury in Los Angeles concluded that none of the renowned family members defamed Blac Chyna or interfered with her contract by persuading the E! network to terminate her reality show “Rob & Chyna.” Before the judge made his decision, the jury deliberated for ten hours.
On the long jury form, the jurors determined that the Kardashians frequently acted in bad faith on the matters raised in the case, but that this had no significant impact on Chyna’s contract or the show’s fate, and she was awarded no damages.
The four Kardashian defendants were present for almost the whole trial, but when the judgement was read, they were all at the Met Gala, which had the theme “Gilded Glamour” this year. Chyna was present in court for the decision. She didn’t seem to respond at all.
After a judge tossed out part of the complaint against Kim Kardashian in the middle of deliberations, jurors were weighing the defamation case against Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner. Jurors have the option of returning a mixed verdict, finding against some of the Kardashians but not others. Instead, they made a clean sweep of the family, leaving Blac Chyna with nothing.
The Kardashian family was “exuberant,” according to their lawyer
Michael G. Rhodes, a lawyer for the Kardashians, said the family was “ecstatic” when he told them the news.
“They’re ecstatic,” Rhodes stated. “I wish them luck at their New York gala.”
“The jury determined that Blac Chyna had not physically mistreated Rob Kardashian,” according to Chyna’s attorney Lynne Ciani, and “the jury found that all four defendants had purposefully interfered with her contract with the E! Network.”
When it was discovered that the jury in the case against Kylie Jenner had voted 8-4 on some matters when at least 9-3 was required in the civil case, they were called back to deliberate further twice, but they swiftly returned with 9-3 votes and the decision remained intact.
According to Kardashian lawyer Michael G. Rhodes, the E! Network terminated the couple’s reality show because they broke up, not due of any manipulations by the Kardashians.
“Without Rob and Chyna, there is no ‘Rob & Blac Chyna’ show,” Rhodes remarked.
