During her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the official Democratic presidential nominee, delivered a forceful call for a ceasefire and a hostage deal in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Emphasizing her commitment to working with President Joe Biden, Harris highlighted the need to ensure Israel’s security while also addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Kamala Harris made it clear that she would prioritize Israel’s defense and the safe return of hostages, stating, “President Biden and I are working around the clock because now is the time to get a hostage deal and a ceasefire deal done. I will always, always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself. Because the people of Israel must never again face the horror that a terrorist organization called Hamas caused on October 7.”

In her speech, Harris also recognized the devastating impact of the war on the people of Gaza, emphasizing the loss of innocent lives and the ongoing suffering of those trapped in the conflict. She underscored the importance of upholding the Palestinian people’s right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination, while also maintaining a firm stance on protecting U.S. interests.

“What has happened in Gaza over the past ten months is devastating. So many innocent lives lost, desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety over and over again. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking,” Harris remarked.

Furthermore, Kamala Harris reaffirmed her commitment to countering Iran and its allied terrorist groups, vowing to take any necessary action to defend U.S. forces and interests. She also distanced herself from authoritarian figures like North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, who she claimed were supporting former President Donald Trump. “I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and our interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists. I will not cozy up to tyrants and dictators like Kim Jong Un who are rooting for Trump,” Harris declared.

Harris’s decision to run for the presidency came after President Biden announced his withdrawal from the race in July. At 59 years old, Harris has now stepped into the spotlight, aiming to carry the Democratic Party forward.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump reacted strongly to Harris’s address, accusing her of harboring animosity towards Israel. On his social media platform, Truth, Trump claimed, “She hates Israel – Wouldn’t even show up to Congress for Netanyahu’s session! She caused the Attack of October 7th. Iran was BROKE – Didn’t have money for Hezbollah!”

The Israel-Hamas war, which began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched a deadly attack on Israel, has taken a heavy toll on both sides. According to the health ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza, over 40,265 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory during the more than 10 months of conflict. This staggering number includes 42 deaths in the past 24 hours alone, with 93,144 people reported as wounded since the war began.

As the conflict drags on, Harris’s call for a ceasefire and a hostage deal reflects her broader vision of balancing security, diplomacy, and humanitarian efforts in one of the most volatile regions of the world.
