Julianna Margulies, Emmy winner, says she is “horrified” by the backlash to a series of comments she made regarding Black & LGBTQ Americans, primarily college students. In a podcast on The Back Room with Andy Ostroy, Margulies railed against support for Palestine in a contentious statement. Following the publication of audio portions from the interview on X/Twitter on Thursday, the claims garnered widespread criticism. At one point, Ostroy stated that “people hate Jews,” then briefly discussed the prevalence of antisemitism in the United States, implying that there is greater outrage over using “the wrong pronouns on college campuses.” Margulies also mentioned “colonialists,” a phrase used by Palestinian sympathisers to describe Israel, and suggested that young Black people leave the nation. “Here’s what kills me,” she explained.

She was most recently an executive producer on the Oscar-nominated short documentary Jack and Sam, which tells the story of two Holocaust survivors who were reunited nearly 80 years after escaping death in a Nazi labor camp.

Julianna Margulies, Emmy winner, states she is “horrified” by the backlash to an array of statements she made regarding Black & LGBTQ Americans, primarily college students. “I am appalled by the realisation that statements I made on a recent podcast hurt the Black & LGBTQIA+ communities, which I truly love as well as respect,” Margulies stated in an exclusive statement to Deadline. “I want to be absolutely clear: racism, homophobia, sexism, or any prejudice against one’s own opinions or identity are completely unacceptable to me.” I have dedicated my career to combating all forms of hatred, abolishing antisemitism, and establishing a united front against prejudice throughout my career. I wasn’t hoping for my statements to cause additional discord, and I humbly apologise.” Julianna Margulies, a Jewish woman, made the contentious remarks on The Back Room with Andy Ostroy’s podcast, in which she railed against support for Palestine. People who identify as LGBTQ are executed.” She further claimed that at Columbia University, a “Black lesbian club” played a video and “put up signs that said, ‘No Jews allowed.'” “As a lesbian journalist on The Morning Show, I’m irritated by it as a lesbian than as a Jew,” she stated. “Because I want to tell them, ‘You f—ing idiots,'” she says. You don’t even exist. You’ve descended even lower than the Jews. A. You’re Black, and B. You’re LGBT, and you’re turning your back on your supporters?’ Because Jews gather around everyone.” Margulies, who said that Adolf Hitler “got his entire playbook from the Jim Crow South,” chastised the Black community for not “embracing” Jews, even though that “Jews stood side by side with Blacks during the civil rights movement in their fight for rights.” “The fact that the whole Black community isn’t rallying with us to me indicates either they just have no idea, or they’ve been brainwashed to hate Jews,” she went on to remark.
