Here is everything you need to know.
John Leguizamo is crying foul over the Super Mario movie
TMZ caught up with John Leguizamo in New York City on Wednesday, the same day Super Mario hit the theatre screens.
Moreover, Leguizamo was asked whether his opinion on the animated film has changed since last year. Additionally, the media outlet asked him whether he would watch the latest adaptation of Super Mario.
However, Leguizamo is still in support of his initial opinions on the movie and is still angry at them for not casting any Latinos in the film.
The 62-year-old actor claimed that studio took a step backward when they cast Chris Pratt and Charlie Day to act as Mario and Luigi respectively in the live adaptation.
Additionally, he stated that both the actors technically do not have Italian roots in them, unlike the iconic made-up characters.
If you didn’t know, Leguizamo and Bob Hoskins played the role of Luigi and Mario in the 1993 live-action of Super Mario.
The John Wick actor took to Twitter in October last year to share his concern following the release of the film’s first trailer.
He said, ‘So glad #superMariobros is getting a reboot! Obviously, it’s iconic (enough). But too bad they went all white! No Latinx in the leads! Groundbreaking color-blind casting in the original!’
He added, ‘Plus I’m the only one who knows how to make this movie work script-wise!’
John Leguizamo slams his former costar, Steven Seagal
John Leguizamo reignited his long-standing feud with Steven Seagal during an interview with Comic Book.
Additionally, he claimed that his character in The Menu is based on Seagal.
He mentioned, ‘No, I wouldn’t have done it as myself. What, am I going to spoof myself like I’m a failed actor? Hell, no. I wouldn’t have done that.’
He added, ‘I used Steven Seagal because I hate him.’
For the unversed, Leguizamo first crossed paths with Seagal on the set of the 1996 action movie Executive Decision. It also starred Kurt Russell and Halle Berry.
Leguizamo shared during an interview with AV Club that Seagal left a bad impression during the first day of rehearsal for their movie.
He claimed, ‘[Seagal] slammed me with an aikido elbow against a brick wall and knocked all the air out of me.’
