Jessica Chastain’s Emotional Tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman Steals the Show at SAG Awards

Jessica Chastain shared encouraging words she received from Philip Seymour Hoffman. The 2023 SAG Awards presented Chastain with the award for best female actor in a television movie or series for her role in Showtime’s George & Tammy. Emily Blunt (The English), Julia Garner (Inventing Anna), Niecy Nash-Betts (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story) and Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout) were also nominated. In the aftermath of her name being announced, Chastain, 45, was visibly shocked and had a shortfall as she made her way to the stage. Chastain, who is currently performing on Broadway in A Doll’s House, thanked a list of people for making the project possible.

She said I get to meet people at the stage door every day after the show, and I get to hear their stories from a lot of actors. Philip Seymour Hoffman spoke to my class when I was in college. He died from a drug overdose in 2014 at the age of 46. During George & Tammy, the Showtime series chronicled the relationship between country music legends Tammy Wynette and George Jones (played by Michael Shannon), the actress who played Tammy Wynette. For her portrayal of country singer Tammy Wynette in Showtime’s George and Tammy, Jessica Chastain earned her third SAG Award and her second consecutive win after winning last year for her Oscar-winning role in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. During her thank you remarks, Chastain recalled attending a class where Philip Seymour Hoffman said, I am looking forward to working with many of you. She said in her speech that she can meet people at the stage door every day after the show, including actors who tell her their stories. Chastain currently performs on Broadway in A Doll’s House. I remember when I was in college, Philip Seymour Hoffman came to speak to my class. Jessica Chastain continued to speak of the late ac tor, who died of a drug overdose in 2014. When it seemed like no one was watching us, he told us all his frustrating audition stories and encouraged us to keep going. Toward the end of the conversation, he said, I’m looking forward to working with each of you, and I was shocked because it was as if he had created it.
