Jennifer Lopez sobbed as she collected the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022’s Generation Award on Sunday. “I think of all the wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with when I look at those films.” After a montage of footage from her films ran during her victory speech, Lopez said, “You’re only as good as the people you work with.” “And if you’re lucky, they’ll help you better.” And in that regard, I’ve been quite blessed. I’m not any of the women I’ve played as an actress, but there’s a bit of myself in each of them.”

“As an actor, I am not any of the women I have played,” she explained, “but there is a component of myself and each of the roles that are absolutely true to me, and since you cannot create reality unless you have fully lived it, I have a different sort of thank-you list tonight.” Lopez thanked a long number of individuals, including those who had brought her joy and those who had broken her heart, as well as true love and failure for teaching her how to be brave.

She says, “I want to embrace true love and the way I lied to myself because that’s how I knew I needed to progress.”
